Pieces of the Congruity

As a sixty year old woman, I find the source of my delight and wellbeing to be many beautiful pieces that MUST make up a cohesive whole...but it doesn't always FEEL that way. I strive to be very sincere in my teaching, my work, my work at the Crocker Art Museum, The Morning Work, and the many relationships in my world and on the planet in such a way as to be absolutely the same person with a young child as with any adult who shares some gallery or grocery store or classroom space. I seem to wear a few different hats in my life-roles, but the themes are similar and related to one another. Actually, that is exactly how the unfolding of my life as an artist has been - one beautiful thing leading to the next. It is so apparent to me that the thing that fuels my personal art-making is teaching and working with others who seem to need the art as much as I do. The flow of ideas is steadiest as I consider the realities of being an artist as a lifework…leaking into every aspect of my existence. Congruity is something I never considered until the age of 51, and since that year, I’ve taken my congruity as seriously as any other piece of my life. It’s a torch that I hold; I will not be setting it down, and I hope to light the torches of every single human that comes to the studio space. We will see.
